Just got back from the Astro's game tonight, a game that was just about as exciting as September baseball could be. The most exciting moment was actually between innings. Colorado was tossing balls around when suddenly the crowd erupted into cheers. From the cheap seats where myself and my lovely Queen (May She Live Forever) were sitting, we could not see what everyone else was looking at. Finally it dawned on us that they were looking at the manual scoreboard where the scores from other games are shown.

I knew the Giants were leading the Dodgers 3-0 in the ninth and had written the game off as a Giants win. Someone next to us got out their cell phone and checked the baseball scores. We joined the cheers of the rest of the fans when we learned that Los Angeles had tied the game.

An inning later (in our game) we learned that the Dodger had scored 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth which meant that a victory tonight would guarantee the 'Stros of at least a tie for the National League wildcard. And victory it was; a swift one at that. 6 home team home runs and no pitching changes except between innings. We enjoyed the 2½ hour game and still got home by bedtime.

Did you know that they sing "Deep in the Heart of Texas" in the 7th inning stretch down here? (Right after "Take me out to the Ballgame" of course.)
