The monotony and chaos of the Congressional District caucus was interrupted for a few minutes by a visit and speech from our representative, Mr. Tom DeLay.
He started his words with a few friendly jabs at Howard Dean. It seems Governor Dean has pledged to help the Democratic challenger (Richard Morrison) in his campaign against Congressman DeLay. With Dean's past campaign successes, Tom offered to help pay his way down here.
The speech was the standard district fare but there were two very notable quotes. The first is regarding the 2004 election:
I think this election could be harder than any that we have ever had...I think the Democrats know that this could be their last chance...I think that has united them. They are more united than I have ever seen before.And the second is regarding a well needed change in the Republican mindset:
If 1994 was the year we stopped thinking like a permanent minority, 2004 must be the year we start thinking like a permanent majority.This is exactly the kind of brain transplant which the Senate Republicans should be on the waiting list for.
