Kofi defends the UN, as only he can:
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has defended his organisation, insisting the world needs the UN. In a speech in London, Mr Annan said the UN had an important role to play in fighting terror and poverty.I'm not convinced 'fighting' is an accurate definition of the role they have taken toward terror, but they have definintely done a fantastic job aiding the destitute. They singlehandedly prevented Kojo Annan, Conteca, Benan Sevan, Butros Butros-Ghali, Saddam Hussein and countless others from facing the scourge of poverty. Another relevant quote:
[the world needs] a forum for collective decision-making and it needs an instrument of collective action.I guarantee there is not a person alive who could deny the collective nature of the UN; nor could any deny the world body's infamous aptitude in both decision-making and taking decisive action.
