Here is an amusing exchange between two lawyers which somehow made its way onto the net. What I find remarkable about this is not how funny it is but rather how common this type of exchange is becoming.
It is becoming so that people use email to deal with situations to avoid being uncomfortable, even though it would be better to show courtesy and deal with the situation in person. People quit jobs, leave churches and break up with their significant others via the saftey of email. Maybe I'm just getting old and am far too old-fashioned, but I hate how technology continues to encourage rudeness.
Take cell phones for example...in fact, take them all - please. At least take them away from those who insist on carrying on loud conversations in public. In your car alone, talk all you like. If you are in a restaurant with others and receive a call, excuse yourself and take your call in the lobby or outside. I've seen couples at a restaurant where one party spends the entire meal talking with someone on their phone while the other one eats alone.
I'm not intending to end the day on a gripe. I'm just frustrated that so many people run through their whole lives while only attending to their own immediate needs, wants and personal comfort. I feel like I'm a counterculture revolutionary when I go to the grocery store and intentionally try to be friendly and pleasant to anyone who will meet my eye (which is becoming a rare occurence). Oh well...Viva la revolution!
