I don't see how he can survive long within the leadership of the PA, but Abbas continues to amaze the world with his actions...first yesterday and now today:
The armed uprising against Israel is a mistake and must end, interim Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in an interview published Tuesday, signaling his determination to change direction after Yasser Arafat's death.

Palestinian militants have enjoyed broad support among Palestinians during more than four years of conflict with Israel. Abbas' affirmation of a somewhat unpopular view comes at the height of his campaign for Palestinian Authority president.

I would quit fighting too, after getting their tails kicked around by the IDF and failing to win anything substantial in the court of world opinion.

The biggest question that remains is can peace, stability, prosperity and time put a dent in the hatred that the Palestinians have for Israel and her citizens. The jury is still out on that one, but we know the current path is sure not working.
