The U.S. soccer team played earlier today in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. While the players soundly defeated Canada, the host country, Mexico, put on its own exhibition of sportsmanship:
The Mexican crowd hooted "The Star-Spangled Banner." It booed U.S. goals. It chanted "Osama! Osama! Osama!" as U.S. players left the field with a 2-0 victory.
Most of the sour grapes are due to the fact that the United States eliminated Mexico in the 2002 World Cup. If the U.S. defeats Honduras on Saturday and Mexico defeats Costa Rica, then the two will face each other in the finals.
And that was in a game against Canada on Thursday before just 1,500 people.
I would presume the attendance at that game would surpass the 1,500 who watched this match.
