I had considered myself a Christian since being "saved" at the age of fifteen. My habit had been to pray daily, and my idea of prayer was to ask and beg God for things. But one day I did something different - I simply sat quietly, asking and begging for nothing. In an instant I experienced a deep realization - I harbored resentment in my heart. I could see that this anger was directed at my parents for failing me. I could also see I had resentment for the challenges I had to face in life. Seeing how my hatred had controlled me and harmed others immediately caused me to forgive them. Forgiveness set me free from within, and I began to see with a clarity I never had before. Soon after that life-changing experience, I started the organization B.O.N.D. My focus was directed toward helping black men overcome their resentments and find freedom. Soon I was helping men of every race as I saw mankind's problems were universal.Jesse Lee Peterson, from this excellent essay on abortion
