Hi Mom-
What’s I really find horrifying is that children in foreign countries have become more important and in the lime-light than our elderly who suffer here in the US. For instance there are 100’s of thousands maybe even millions of elderly here that don’t have the means or family members to support and help them, even after all they’ve done for us. While some unfortunate child in Africa, or others, become more important through media celebrity hype then those that gave their lives to make us what we are and give us what we have. Now there is the real tradegy- I don’t need to find my life’s reason very far from home really. I just need just look and there is enough people I know of that need good will. I wish I were only rich but in the meantime I’ll do what I can to make things better at home and avoid the lime-light.
Your loving child
I don’t think it is wrong to look around the world and try to help out, although it is important to at least have some focus on what is immediately around you. Example: our church reaches out to the poor in our community. We also support individuals involved in Christian outreach in the Philipines, South Africa, Mexico and Honduras.
But most celebs simply find a very high-profile far-off cause to champion that normal people wouldn’t be able to. (But I’m sure it does some good too.)
