Rescue Me
In Germany, a heads-up move by an abducted girl and the man who found her note led to freedom:
The girl's handwritten note was found by a man near trash containers in the neighborhood where she was held for five weeks only about a half-mile from her home. In it, the girl begged the finder to alert police and included the address where she was being held and the name of her kidnapper.

Christian Avenarius, a spokesman for city prosecutors, said the note read "this is no joke" and "it's a matter of life and death."

She was held for 5 weeks and the kidnapper has been charged with sexual assault and kidnapping. He had previously spent 3 years in prison for abusing a minor.

Rescue Note

I'm a strong believer in grace, I'm having a very difficult time reconsciling that with those who would sexually assault others, especially minors. Recidivism rates are so high for this particular crime. What can fix that problem? I'm not sure, but my only suggestions are lawsuits and emasculation. If every victim of a repeat offender sued the local courts for failing to deal properly with dangerous criminals, penalties would stiffen out of necessity (assuming they could get a fair trial). Alternatively, emasculation may be considered cruel and unusual today, but the true cruelty is the victim having to pull her (or his) life back together after the trauma of being sexually assaulted. And once you start chopping, before too long, it will no longer be unusual either.

Brave girl.

I don’t really want government to get in Eunuch business—isn’t there a kind of “chemical emasculation” versus actual “physical emasculation?” Also physical emasculation amounts to “cruel and unusual punnishment” and violates the Constitution.

The issue of sexual violence is one close to my heart, because a number of the loved ones in my life are survivors.  However, while stranger assaults are of course tragic, the vast majority of assaults occur between people who know each other.  That’s a dynamic that kind of takes my breath away.

Most of my emasculation sentiments are just out of frustration.  We have worked with some kids in our church, some of whom were horribly abused.  The hardest thing about it is to see that they have years of recovery ahead of them, while their abusers continue to walk free, and from what we know about this sort of behaviour, are extremely likely to assault others.

I’m not a huge fan of the death penalty, although it does remove someone who has a proven record of killing others from ever doing it again.  It also serves as a deterrent to some of society.  There are also some upon whom it has no effect, and those are the ones who need the deterence the most.

With those that would sexually abuse children, the situation is even worse because it seems as if there is no deterent that works.  Even after prison for the same offense, the guy in the story above went right back to terrorizing young girls.  Apparently 3 years in prison is a fair trade for a few weeks of perverted sexual release.

There has got to be a way to better deal with these issues.
