Blame Game
Just when you thought you have heard every excuse there is, someone invents a new one:
A Washington County motorist blamed his girth as the reason he allegedly stepped out of his car and pointed a gun at a police officer who had stopped to offer assistance along a Belle Vernon street.I understand that this one is difficult to comprehend, but read on:
According to the criminal complaint filed by Southwest Regional Police, Duvall was parked on the south side of Route 906 at 12:25 a.m. June 18 when Detective Sgt. James Rega, who was driving north, stopped and called to him, asking if he was ill or had car trouble. At that point, Duvall reportedly got out of the car carrying a stack of papers and a black folder. Rega again asked Duvall if he was all right or needed assistance. The man said no, began walking toward the patrol vehicle, and asked the officer, "Why, is there a problem?" As Duvall continued walking toward the patrol car, the officer said he noticed a revolver hidden under the papers and aimed at him. Rega jumped out of the patrol car, restrained Duvall and secured a loaded .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver.Oh, and when the officer patted down Duvall, he found a pipe and 3.6 grams of suspected marijuana. Still, I'm thinking that blaming one's girth is so personal. Assuming he drove the right kind of vehicle, he should have just blamed the SUV. Everyone is doing it.Duvall allegedly told Rega he had a permit to carry the weapon and intended to put the gun in his waistband before exiting his car. However, Duvall said he was "too fat" to perform the maneuver inside his car.
