PSR's Survey Research Unit has conducted a survey of 1320 adults living in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The results for two questions caught my eye:
16) In recent weeks there is a sharp decrease in the level of violence exerted by both sides. In your opinion should Palestinians continue nevertheless the suicide bombings inside Israel if an opportunity arises?
AnswerTotal %West BankGaza Strip
1) Definitely Yes21.915.333.3
2) Yes36.738.134.3
3) No31.635.325.2
4) Definitely No5.56.43.9
5) DK/NA4.34.93.3
Nearly 60% answered in the positive. This is why Israel is building the wall to separate themselves from this threat. If no opportunities arise, then no innocent civilians will die. Even a low number of positives is a bad thing as one homicide bomber can kill so many; but a high number like this ensures that the violence will continue through the next generation.
30) Who came out the winner so far in the ongoing armed conflict that has started in September 2000 between Israel and the Palestinians?
AnswerTotal %West BankGaza Strip
1) Israel16.018.511.8
2) the Palestinians39.631.553.6
3) Both4.65.33.3
4) Neither37.241.629.7
5) DK/NA2.63.11.6
I find it very interesting that 40% of these people believe they are winning against Israel. The majority of their leadership has been either targeted and killed or discredited. Their losses both in lives and property damage have been much heavier than those of their opponent. International opinion may not be swinging toward Israel, but it has definitely moved away from Arafat - primarily because of his bad faith negotiations and his embrace of terrorism. The wall of separation is damaging the Palistinian economy, but not their opponent's. Israel's economy is actually improved by it, because security is a key element in economic stability.

I do not see a single area where the Palistinian position has been improved during during this 4 year intifada. If this is winning, I would truly hate to see losing.
