Like most people with an email address, I receive hundreds of unsolicited emails (spam) per day. It is not a huge issue since I use a silver bullet called PopFile which automatically relegates 99.98% of the trash to the virtual dust-bin.
Last weekend, my site was down for three solid days, including all my domain based email accounts. Since it came back up, I have noticed that the amount of spam received daily has dropped by a good 70%.
Have I just serendipitiously discoverd a new weapon in our anti-spam arsenal?
It would be cool if there was a way to automatically disable spam-rich email accounts during each weekend. This is one way to get a valid email address removed from hundreds of spam lists. What would be a bigger improvement on this idea is to modify the automated bounce message so it explains that email can only be received on Monday-Friday. This would allow humans who get a bounce realize that the address actually is valid.
