The MyDoom virus is freaking me out. I'm protected - I use AVG and it is better than any other anti-virus program I have ever used. I continue to receive infected e-mail after infected e-mail but AVG neuters them so that is no big deal.
What bothers me is that I continue to receive 'returned' e-mails. They have my e-mail address as the original sender and also carry the virus. This made me believe that I somehow joined the ranks of thousands of clueless individuals who opened an unexpected attachment. But I never did! My machine is clean, and so is my outbox.
Has anyone else had this same experience?
UPDATE:
Information about the scope of this bug is available here. This struck me as both amazing and very accurate. My incoming mail matches this estimate:
Current estimates show that currently between 20% - 30% of all email traffic worldwide is generated by this worm. F-Secure is urging especially Internet Service Providers to start dropping infected emails instead of delivering them to end users. F-Secure is releasing information for ISPs on how to reliably detect infected emails from mail queues with minimum processing power. For details, see the virus description. These solutions are available for free and do not require usage of F-Secure’s products.
