Citizen Smash offers a free lesson in military logistics:
Were mistakes made during the Iraq war? You bet your ass - War planning is hard. Post-war planning is even more difficult. Nothing ever works out the way that you expect it to, from the niggling little details all the way up to the big, strategic level decisions. We somehow manage to muddle through, anyway. Perhaps this doesn't match up with the common perception of "military precision," but most military operations are a big mess, composed of lots of little messes. That's the nature of the beast. Having said that, the US military is better and more efficient at conducting these complex operations than just about every other outfit in the world (I should know, I've worked with many of them). I'm not going to demean our hard-working allies, but let's just say we're a superpower -- and they aren't -- for a reason. He is upset that one candidate is pointing at the logistic glitches in Iraq as evidence of the other candidate's failed leadership as CINC. It would seem that the former might want to think back to his own experience with military logistics during a certain unnamed war. Or perhaps he is just trying to formulate a consistent policy. After all, he was also critical of the CINC during that conflict.
