My biggest fear in bringing democracy to Iraq would be that it wouldn't stick. That the people who had been ruled with an iron fist for their entire lives would not be able to handle freedom. That those who once enjoyed power would attempt to undermine the freedom of all for their own gain. Today there is evidence that those fears are materializing.

Zeyad reports first hand of the Coup that is errupting.

Freedom has always come with a price. The price for freedom in Iraq cannot be paid with coalition blood alone. The people of Iraq must also rise to the occasion and stand their ground, despite the risks involved. Unfortunately, the brutality of Saddam over so many years has made the general populace completely risk-averse.

UPDATE: Mohammed also indicates the situation is grim but his outlook is definitely more optimistic.

UPDATE: Zeyad is feeling a little better about the situation now!
