Houston's light rail has such an atrocious accident record that new options are being floated. Like a subway. Yes, here in Houston where the water table eliminates the concept of the basement and the freeways flood with any decent rainfall, like we tragically endured last week.
I'm not doubting that a subway could be constructed here. I'm just doubting the sense of any official or politician who thinks the advantages outweigh the cost of construction and maintaining such a thoroughfare at this elevation. In the spring, 3 or 4 inches of rain in just a few hours is a common occurrence. A tropical storm or hurricane can triple those numbers.
