Many things have changed in Iraq, including the names being given to newborn babies:
Before the Iraqi dictator fell, many newborns were proudly named after him, but with scorn being poured on Saddam Hussein, parents now prefer the names of revered religious leaders for their offspring.
"We have not recorded a single Saddam since the regime fell on 9 April," said Emad Fakher Hassan, an employee at the public records office in Baghdad.
What is even more interesting is this:
Yet, no Saddam has yet shown up to have his name changed, even though Iraqi legislation allows citizens to change their names and birthdates once in a lifetime.
If U.S. citizens could legally change their birthdates, I wonder how many would take advantage of it. The only real use that comes to mind is for little leage players like Danny Almonte.
"I expect Saddams will eventually come to change their bothersome name," a public records office employee said.
