Don't take me wrong. I love Google. I've used their search engine for years. GoogleNews is a great information source. GoogleImages is way cool. Plus, someone nice just gave me a gmail invite.

But this article about Bill Gates starting a blog seems just a bit too Googley-eyed:

True enough.
One of the early players was Google, which lets people create and maintain blogs free at blogger.com, a business it purchased in 2002.
I don't think so. Blogger was started by Pyra Labs in August of 1999. They were truly an early player. Google didn't purchase Pyra until late 2002 / early 2003...3½ years later.

They are a major player because they bought an early player. They just weren't an early player when the playing was early.
